Lots of signs warning that kayaking on very cold Lake Michigan is dangerous:
-
Sea kayaks only, not recreational kayaks
-
Waves can suddenly be 2-10 feet tall
-
No place to land or rest where cliff hits water
-
Waves crash into cliff
-
Could be miles from nearest beach
-
Cold water will kill you in an hour, even if 1st involuntary gasp
doesn't drown you and cold shock doesn't give you a heart attack.
-
Needed: Wet or dry suit, spray skirt, bilge pump, marine radio
-
Boat can blow away from you if you fall out
-
Know how to re-enter the kayak
-
Don't go alone
-
Nearest rescue boat may be an hour or more away, even in good weather
